作者所繪製的肖像畫雖然頗受歡迎，但是他最主要的專長卻是風俗畫跟寓意畫。這幅【古代的舞蹈】線條優雅，色彩和諧迷人，正是作者的特色。這幅作品其實是製作壁毯或是布幕的圖樣，所以可以很清楚的在畫面上看到左右相反的字體。三位衣著輕盈的女子在以神廟為背景的地方起舞，很是符合當時人們對於古代神話的想像。而週邊的植物加上明亮卻不強烈的色彩，更增添了一種遐想中的美感。

Although Dubufe’s portrait paintings were highly appreciated then, he specialized mostly in genre and allegorical paintings. This work bearing delicate lines and soft colors are attributes of the artist. The reverse characters on the bottom of the painting indicate the work’s original intention for a tapestry or drapery design. Three gracefully dressed ladies are dancing before a shrine; such image was an ideal visualization of ancient mythology for people back then. The surrounding plants are bright yet soft in color, adding a fanciful sense of beauty to the scene.
